With a strong presence in East Anglia as well as covering as far west as Dorset and as far north as Scotland, my client are a major multi-disciplined firm focussing primarily on agriculture, farming and rural practice. Due to continued expansion they are now looking for an Assistant Farm Manager to cover the Hertfordshire area. JOB SUMMARY: Involved in the day to day farm management Assist with day to day farm activities as necessary Monitor Health and Safety DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: You will be involved with planning, organising and managing the farm activities to meet the objectives of the Farm Manager and owner. Typical work activities include: Organising farm staff operational daily activity Deal with operational issues as they arise Ensure delivery of high quality work Undertake a wide range of practical activities, such as driving tractors, operating machinery, spraying fields Arranging the maintenance of buildings, machinery and equipment within budget Making sure products are ready for deadlines, such as fertilisers and chemicals in stock for spreading and spraying Ensuring that farm activities comply with Government regulations, such as health and safety Maintaining the quality of stored product such as cereals and potatoes Understanding the implications of weather and making contingency plans Monitoring yields and land use Protecting the environment and biodiversity KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Infectious enthusiasm and desire and motivation to exceed Well developed communication skills knowledge of the latest agricultural machinery General machinery management, maintenance and repair, and setting Strong IT skills, Microsoft and other farm management systems Would need to have a clean licence and be medically fit for the role EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Educated to Agricultural degree standard or equivalent experience Preferably 2 years practical arable farming experience, home or abroad SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The job holder will be expected to work long hours during the busy periods of the farming calendar, weekends and holidays as requested by the farm/ estate manager.
