UK: Principal Environmental Engineer

This world-wide consultancy has an opening for an experienced, driven individual to work at a fast expanding multi disciplinary company.



This role is to join their Natural & Built Environment team. This will include, but not be limited to, management of waste management projects, support to business development, preparation of estimates and proposals. Projects could include, feasibility studies, design and engineering for municipal, hazardous or commercial waste treatment processes e.g. stabilisation, composting, anaerobic digestion, MBT, energy from waste, transfer stations.



You will need to demonstrate a strong technical background and wide experience, excellent knowledge of UK regulation in this area and an ability to manage the commercial and contractual risks associated with this kind of work.

You will be keen to win and execute high quality work and will be prepared to work alone or in larger teams, and in co-operation with or waste experts in Belgium and elsewhere in MWH global. You will also be required to supervise and mentor less experienced staff and be responsible for the technical quality of projects, which you lead.

To be successful in this role you will need experience in business development of professional services. You will need experience in design of waste treatment and disposal facilities, as well as experience of permitting and licensing of waste handling and treatment plants.

Experience in planning and preparation of proposals for professional services and prepared to write proposals personally or to plan and lead teams writing proposals is essential and you will also need experience in preparation and delivery of presentations.

You will need to be a believer in Client Relationship Management as a means to secure long term fruitful business relationships with client organisations. Experience in working within and large professional service organisation providing business to business services and appreciating the need to develop and maintain internal as well as external relationships is also desired.



You will also need a degree (or equivalent) in subject of relevance, preferably: Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or environmental engineering alternately other engineering subject or similar.



Postgraduate degree in relevant subject plus Chartered Status or equivalent professional qualification is desirable. Ideally you will also be CIWM, CIWEM, ICE or IChemE member with a good working knowledge of health & safety regulations in the UK.
