ADRA is currently seeking a Agronomist for an upcoming MCC project in Mozambique. The project is expected to focus on crop disease control and mitigation, smallholder livelihood and agribusiness development, and coastal crop diversification.
This position is contingent upon ADRA being awarded the project.
Responsibilities:
The Agronomist will oversee coconut replanting and intercropping efforts. The Agronomist will ensure that replanting maximizes tree productivity and will determine the best mix of agronomic practices. The Agronomist will oversee dissemination of improved farm practices, including best environmental and social management practices to cultivate selected crops, and will monitor the performance of farm production in intercropped areas. The Agronomist will coordinate with other Project Specialists to ensure that crops are grown, harvested and delivered according to the requirements of targeted buyers.
Qualifications:
- A Masters Degree or equivalent in related discipline.
- Experience in the production of crop such as pulses, tubers and vegetables to reduce risks associated with mono-cropping.
- Analytical skills in assessing land, soil, production practices, water resources, and cost in production.
- Experience in Lusophone Africa is preferred
- English and Portuguese languages both written and spoken required
- Advanced degree and 5 years of experience is required for mid-level positions
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Experience on donor projects in program design, management, or implementation is preferred
